I know about half a dozen people who have disconnected their landlines because it's costing them so much. Instead they're using their mobiles for phone calls and mobile internet for going online. Considering the huge updates and patches that have become a regular part of Internet browsing I would imagine that huge numbers of PCs in Ireland don't have an up to date/secure browser due to the impossibility of downloading over a slow connection.
